When the gavel goes down: A childhood friend exhibited the disposition of a magpie for shiny things, and went to prison recently. I went to court as a character reference.The impending collision of the gavel and sounding block in sentencing inspired me to write the song. The sheer ferocity of the that sentence oozed its own blues.
